"The computer has both created the information explosion and given us the means of managing it." Paul Zane Pilzer
It is often said that if the auto industry did what the computer industry has done over the past few decades, a Rolls Royce would cost less than $2 and get over 100,000 miles to the gallon. Bill Gates' March 1995 column in the Wall Street Journal stated that the price of computing has dropped by more than a factor of 100,000 in the past 20 years. With Intel Corporation highly focused on the Herculean task of doubling the number of circuits on a chip every 18 months, this trend is likely to continue. This means that new software will be easier to use and existing software will run faster. Faster software means that the investment you make today to learn software will reap increasing benefits.
Becoming proficient with PCs involves mastering software. Therefore, the main focus of this chapter is on how the ideas presented thus far in Brain Dancing can be applied to the process of learning software faster.
